Turn fabric scraps into gorgeous, handmade washi tape!

✂️ Materials Needed:

✅ Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Choose your fabric

Pick lightweight cotton fabric with small, detailed patterns. Avoid thick or stretchy fabric, as they won’t stick as well or roll up nicely.

Tip: Iron the fabric first so it’s flat and smooth for easier cutting.

2. Cut the fabric into strips

Cut your fabric into strips the same width as your double-sided tape — commonly 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) or 3/4 inch (2 cm) wide.

You can use:

3. Apply the double-sided tape

Stick your double-sided tape directly onto the back side of the fabric, smoothing it out as you go to avoid wrinkles or air bubbles.

Make sure the adhesive fully sticks to the fabric.

4. Trim the edges

Once the tape is in place, trim the sides to make sure there’s no overhang. You now have a neat strip of fabric-backed tape!

5. Store or use!

You can:

  • Use it right away by peeling off the backing

  • Or stick the tape onto wax paper/parchment paper to create your own washi tape “rolls” or strips for future use
